* Quality food and household items donated by Deliveroo
* Donation includes household essentials such as toilet rolls
* Vital support as TBBT sees 460% increase in need
Leading food delivery company Deliveroo has donated essential household and food items from their ‘Essentials’ range to The Bread and Butter Thing (TBBT).
The ‘Essentials’ range was launched as part of Deliveroo’s response to the COVID-19 crisis, to provide the UK with access to everyday goods during lockdown, with a particular focus on the elderly and vulnerable.
The company is now donating all the surplus food for good use, supporting families and individuals in need across the North of England through TBBT, a charity which makes life more affordable for people on low incomes.
TBBT has collected donations from three Deliveroo Edition Kitchen sites in Manchester, Leeds and Nottingham. The donation includes a mix of household items as well as a variety of food from cereal to tuna, to pasta and peas. This food donation will ensure that quality surplus can help support families in need and does not go to waste: which in course has a number of economic, environmental and social benefits.
The food will be used to support TBBT through its 33 community hubs in Greater Manchester and Darlington during a time when people are increasingly struggling due to the impact of COVID-19. TBBT is currently supporting 3700 households each week - a 460% increase on the previous 12 months. During the COVID-19 pandemic, TBBT is also supporting other charities from across the North of England from Eggcup in Lancaster, Open Kitchen Manchester and Food Cycle as well as projects in Teesside. TBBT is currently redistributing 65+ tonnes of surplus food each week - that's 154,700 meals a week.
Speaking of the donation, Mark Game, TBBT CEO said: "We continue to be on the frontline supporting families and communities struggling with the economic impact of COVID and living in food insecurity. Deliveroo's donation of its surplus food is very gratefully received, working to ensure that our members don't go hungry. As the effects of the pandemic deepen leaving more and more families in need, donations of quality surplus food are a lifeline for TBBT to continue its vital work. Thanks Deliveroo."
Ajay Lakhwani, Global VP of New Business said: “We are delighted to be making a donation to The Bread and Butter Thing, a charity who do (which does?) incredible work to support communities in need around the country. Our Essentials range of food and everyday household items provided a lifeline for many people who were shielding or self-isolating due to COVID-19, and we hope these surplus items being donated will help vulnerable communities even further.”
