Over 100 families attend the launch of new Wythenshawe hub

Friday 1st November. Pretty damp and chilly but we were not going to let a little thing like the weather put us off.

With help and support from the the team at St Luke's and Jacqueline & the team at Real Food Wythenshawe, we served 110 families with bags of fruit & veg, chilled and cupboard goods, saving them each over £25 on their weekly food bills. That's over 3,000 meals.

St Luke's is a great example of a thriving community project, routinely providing breakfast clubs, community meals and community groups such as sewing groups and the team are incredibly welcoming and supportive of everybody in their community.

Jacqueline Naraynsigh, the Real Food programme manager said;

"The Bread and Butter Thing has arrived in Wythenshawe with a ‘bang’.

We have been waiting with baited breath for TBBT to arrive and we weren’t disappointed.

Rachel and Chris arrived on Friday morning and soon got the team of volunteers organised and working together like a well-oiled machine.

Food was speedily sorted into bags for the waiting queue.

Over 110 people had joined up for the first week of operation of the TBBT.

We are so pleased to have TBBT working alongside WFB to deliver an affordable food offer for people who may be struggling to put food on the table.

The partnership with St Luke's started with an amazing turn out of volunteers. Over the next year, we will be serving over 150,000 meals and saving families over £100,000 in Wythenshawe all thanks to our new partners at St Luke's.

In the bottom 2.5% of areas according to the 2019 Indices of Multiple Deprivation, Wythenshawe has all sorts of problems arising lack of access to affordable food, employment and health issues. Which is why we are really happy to be working with such incredible community groups as St Luke's and Real Food Wythenshawe because of the amazing work they have been doing for years around the area.

A huge thanks to all the volunteers. In fact (what better thing does bread and butter make), a Toast to them! We simply couldn't do it without them.
